• Chemical and technical rescue exercises
On 28 October 2016 exercises in the field of chemical and technical rescue operations were organized at the Central School of the State Fire Service in Częstochowa, Poland. 17 firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice participated in exercises. They verified capabilities of Heavy Technical Rescue Vehicle equipment in relation to rescue operations which concern evacuation victims blocked in rubbles and channels. Firefighters were also improving skills of sealing various kinds of leaks, taking samples and analyzing composition of unknown substances. Another element trained during exercises was creating logistic of operation, organizing operation zones and working in task groups. Exercises gave firefighters opportunity to verify various rescue theories and compare them with possibilities of Specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group Katowice-Piotrowice and possibilities of CBRN module which was formed on base of Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice.

• Hydrochloric acid - Przemysłowa Street in Tychy
On 23 September 2016 about 7 pm Specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice was dispatched to rescue action in chemical company at Przemysłowa Street in Tychy, Poland.
When the group arrived firefighters ascertained hydrochloric acid leakage as a result of container valve damage. 38 tons of acid leaked out to emergency concrete tray which was situated directly under the container.
Rescue operation included: pumping acid from the tray to tank truck, sealing tray trigger pipe and controlling operation zone.
Difficulties of rescue operation were related to continuous work wearing chemical protective suit in operation zone (called: hot zone) because of very high concentration of hydrochloric acid. The operation was finished about 4 am on 24 September 2016.

• NATO Days in Katowice
On 9 July 2016 crews SCRchem from Fire Station no. 2 Katowice-Piotrowice and GCBA 8/50 from Fire Station no. 1 Katowice-Szopienice took a part in event related to NATO Summit which was organized in front of Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. During the event firefighters presented rescue equipment which is used by carried on fire trucks and personal equipment of firefighter. Apart from fire service, their own expositions had Police and Border Guard.

• Construction and opening a football pitch ORLIK
On 26 April 2016 construction of football pitch on interior square of Fire Station no. 2 Katowice-Piotrowice was started. Construction included inter alia: removal of old clay surface, removal of layer soil and rubble, installing a drainage system, preparation the ground under new surface. After this phase, ball catching nets, football goals, amortization layer were installed. The last phase of construction was installing 40 millimeters synthetic grass surface.
On 26 June 2016 the first match was played on new football pitch. Before players got on grass official opening was made by City Deputy Commandant of the State Fire Service in Katowice mł. bryg. Arkadiusz Korzeniewski.

• Fire Station Open Day
On 29 May 2016 within the confines of Fire Station Open Day firefighers from Fire Station no. 2 Katowice-Piotrowice presented for visitors chemical and ecological rescue technics and specialist rescue equipment which is in their possession. Moreover, training chamber, measuring devices stand, first aid stand and fire trucks stand were available to visitors during the day.

• CBRNE training at CSPSP in Częstochowa
From 4 April to 8 April 2016 Central School of the State Fire Service (CSPSP) in Częstochowa, Poland, organized specialist training in the field of preventing chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive threats (CBRNE). Twenty firefighters from Poland took a part in the training, including firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice. Firefighters learned about: technics of recognizing threats, ways of taking samples, analyzing composition of unknown substances, kinds of explosive devices and materials. Training was organized in form of theoretical lectures, seminars and exercises on proving ground at the school.

• Theoretical and practical training for students of Police Academy in Katowice
On 11 February 2016 a training was organized for students of Police Academy in Katowice, Poland. Theoretical part of the training which included cooperation between fire service and Police on streets and proper protection of rescuers during fire and rescue operations was conducted by Deputy Commander of Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice mł. bryg. Tomasz Dziechciarz. Practical part which included demonstration of rescue operation during street accident using technics of rescuing victims from crashed vehicles and extinguishing using fire extinguishers was performed by firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice. After the demonstration students from Police Academy checked out their ability in extinguishing vehicles using fire extinguishing.

• City Commandant in Katowice Futsal Cup
On 16 October 2015 XVII City Commandant in Katowice Futsal Cup was organized in sports hall of Miejski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji Katowice-Szopienice, Poland. Five teams took a part in the tournament: two teams from Fire Station no.1 Katowice-Szopienice, one team from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice, one team from Fire Station no.3 Katowice and one team from City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice. The tournament such as every year was on high level. During the competition every team plays each other. The best teams were from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice and City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice. These two teams scored the same number of points, they had the same sum of goals and the result of matches between them was 1 to 1. Series of penalty shots decided about championship.
Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice took first place and we are the champions!!!! Second place was taken by a team from City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice and third place was taken by a team from Fire Station no.1 Katowice-Szopienice. It should be mention that we have already took top places of City Commandant in Katowice Futsal Cup in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2011 and 2015. It is time to start another series …

• Gas leakage in Gorzyce
On 3 October 2015 Specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice was dispatched to rescue action with leaking LPG container at the gas station in Gorzyce, Poland. When the group arrived firefighters sealed gas leakage, what prevented danger spreading.

• Provincial Volleyball Championship 2015
On 21 September and 25 September 2015 a volleyball team from City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice took a part in VI Volleyball Championship of Silesia Province, Poland.
The first day of qualifications which took a place in the sports hall of Fire Station no.1 Katowice-Szopienice, the team from Katowice finished on the first place in their group and qualified for the finals. The finals which took a place in the sports hall of The Academy of Physical Education in Katowice, the team from Katowice finished on sixth place which was the best result in history (in 2013 it was seventh place).
Firefighters from Fire Station no. 2 Katowice-Piotrowice (shift 1 and shift 3) were a part of the team from Katowice.

• Exercises at the Central School of the State Fire Service in Częstochowa
On 14 July 2015 firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice took a part in exercises organized on proving ground belonged to the Central School of the State Fire Service in Częstochowa, Poland. The aim of exercises was to improve organization and conducting of rescue actions on specialist level at industrial piping system.

• Baterpol Świętochłowice Exercises
On 1 July 2015 firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice and firefighters from Fire Station Świętochłowice took a part in exercises at battery recycling company Baterpol S.A. in Świętochłowice (the company has been qualified to high hazard industry). According to assumption of exercises, one of workers who were carrying a container with sulphuric acid using forklift and hit the other container. As a consequence of the accident, one of containers got unsealed and acid started leaking. The task for firefighters was to seal container and remove leaked acid. The aim of exercises was to improve organization and conducting of rescue actions on basic level (Fire Station Świętochłowice) and specialist level (Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice) according to procedures of chemical and ecological rescue in National Firefighting and Rescue System.

• Exercises on the area of Górnośląskie Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka in Katowice
On 28 May 2015 firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice and firefighters from Volunteer Fire Station in Katowice-Kostuchna took a part in exercises together with Province Emergency Medical Service and Police.
Assumption of exercises was a crash involving a car and a school bus carrying children and the crash caused a mass casualty incident.
Rescue teams who came to the accident couldn't provide full medical aid because of large number of victims. Medical Aid Coordinator was deciding about an order of medical aid on the base of segregation of victims. One team of firefighters was evacuating injured driver from a car using hydraulic rescue equipment and in the same time the other team of firefighters was evacuating children from a bus.
Rescuers didn't know about details of exercises before they began. Children who took a part in exercises were from one of primary schools in Katowice.
The aim of exercises was to improve procedures using in case of mass casualty incidents, especially coordination of operations. Conclusions and notices from exercises may be helpful in future trainings and operations.

• Firefighters Day 2015
On 21 May 2015 Firefighters Day was organized in Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice.
In the ceremony participated: Teresa Piotrowska - Minister of Internal Affairs, Marek Wójcik - Member of Parliament, Mirosław Szemla - Deputy Provincial Governor of Silesia, nadbrygadier Marek Rączka - Silesian Commandant of the State Fire Service, Marcin Krupa - Mayor of Katowice.
The ceremony began from submitting raport to Minister of Internal Affairs Teresa Piotrowska and reviewing of subdivisions. City Commandant of the State Fire Service in Katowice brygadier Bogdan Jędrocha welcomed all guests. During the ceremony decorations and medals were given to firefighters and to people who supported fire service. Next point of ceremony was giving promotions on higher ranks to 24 firefighters of City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice.
Minister of Internal Affairs honored undermentioned firefighters:
• młodszy brygadier Tomasz Korczak - operation dispatcher serving in City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice,
• młodszy aspirant Jakub Skalmierski - senior rescuer serving in City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Mysłowice.
Mayor of Katowice Marcin Krupa gave prizes to undermentioned firefighters:
• instructors who were teaching children in educational center Mała Strażnica,
• instructors who were teaching Volunteer Firefighters from city Katowice,
• outstanding firefighters from City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice.
After the end of official part of the ceremony City Commandant of the State Fire Service in Katowice invited guests and firefighters to traditional pea soup.

• An internship of firefighters from Ukraine at Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice
From 12 May to 18 May 2015 five officer rank firefighters from Tarnopol Province, Ukraine had an internship at Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice.
During theoretical lectures firefighters from Fire Station no.2 presented to guests from Ukraine the way of functioning of the State Fire Service and the National Firefighting and Rescue System in Poland. During practical exercises firefighters from Ukraine learned about tactics and equipment of the group with emphasis on measuring devices.
The general subject of the internship realized by firefighters from Ukraine was functioning of Specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group Katowice-Piotrowice.

• Fire Station Open Day
On 10 May 2015 firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice prepared a presentation of chemical and ecological rescue and technical rescue within the confines of Fire Station Open Day.
Apart from presentation visitors could learn about the State Fire Service functioning, equipment which is at one's disposal and also they could get answers to various questions which concern safety.
On the first aid stand visitors could find out about using AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and practice CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on manikin.

• Extinguishing containers with liquid fuel and liquefied gas
From 2 October to 3 October 2014 the Fire Service College in Krakow organized a training on proving ground in Kościelec, Poland entitled "Extinguishing containers with liquid fuel and liquefied gas"




The training included:
• episodes: stream fire, fire of liquid phase on exercise stand with LPG container,
• research chamber display - demonstration of lower and upper explosive limits rules,
• sealing of liquid and gaseous phase leakages,
• deploying of water curtains to effectively separate the part of pipeline with leakage,
• ignition of LPG cloud (controlled ignition of liquid and gaseous phases among deployed water curtains).

• Chemical and technical rescue exercises
On 25 April 2014 firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice took a part in exercises in the field of chemical and technical rescue operations, organized in the Central School of the State Fire Service in Częstochowa, Poland.

• A new vehicle truck in Fire Station no. 2 Katowice-Piotrowice
On 7 April 2014 Fire Station no. 2 Katowice-Piotrowice obtained a new Heavy Technical Rescue Vehicle built on chassis of Scania G440 4x4. The vehicle is equipped with hydraulic crane FASSI, two winches, hydraulic rescue equipment, low and high pressure bags, chain saw, cut-off saw and other rescue specialist equipment. This vehicle replaced Technical Rescue Vehicle Steyr made in 1992.

• Training in the field of preparation to operations carrying on abroad
From 17 February to 21 February 2014 firefighter from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice took a part in "Training in the field of preparation to operations carrying on abroad" organized in Department of Training for Specialist Rescue Groups in Nowy Sącz, Poland. The training concerned rescue moduls of State Fire Service which carry on international specialist rescue operations as a part of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, fighting with forest fires (GFFFV - Ground Forest FireFighting using Vehicles), liquidating results of flood (HCP - High Capacity Pumping) and carrying on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear rescue operations (CBRN).
The training was realized in form of lectures, seminar classes and exercises in groups of four. At the end firefighters took a part in exercises where they used knowledge learnt during the training. Exercises were organized with officers from WZD Karpackiego Ośrodka Wsparcia Straży Granicznej (one of departments of The Polish Border Guard) and students from Institute of Health of The State Higher Vocational School in Nowy Sącz.

• International trainings
Firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice have recently participated in international trainings i.e. CMI (Community Mechanism Induction) course from 1 July to 5 July 2013 in Italy and expert exchange programme within the confines of the Community Mechanism for Civil Protection from 3 June to 8 June 2013 in Germany. Firefighters also participated in OPCW (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) course from 23 September to 27 September 2013 in Central School of the State Fire Service in Czestochowa, Poland. During the CMI course firefighters learned about functioning of the Community Mechanism for Civil Protection, rules of giving aid to associated and non-associated countries, rules of giving humanitarian aid. They also learned about cultural differences and problems which follow from them. In the course of expert exchange programme firefighters learned about technology and rescue procedures in use in countries which are cooperating within the confines of the Community Mechanism for Civil Protection. During OPWC course firefighters took a part in lectures and exercises in the field of taking samples in environment of chemical and biological danger using chemical protective suits.

• Fire Station Open Day
On 26 May 2013 Fire Station Open Day was organized in Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice. During the Open Day firefighters of shift 2, Station Command and divers from Volunteer Fire Station in Katowice-Szopienice whose seat is in Fire Station no.2, prepared presentation of equipment for fire and rescue actions which is in Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice possession. Moreover, organizers of Open Day tried to make children's dreams come true and let them feel as a real firefighters, so children could get in the fire engines, pour water using a fire hose, try on helmets and uniforms. All guests could learn how the State Fire Service functions, what kind of equipment is at one's disposal and also they could get answers to various questions. • 100 years of Volunteer Fire Station in Katowice-Podlesie
On 25 May 2013 ceremony of 100 years in existence of Volunteer Fire Station was organized in Katowice-Podlesie. Station Command and firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice congratulate volunteer firefighters, wish them further fire station development and many successes in professional and personal life.

• Firefighters Day 2013
In the circle of firefighters the month of May is traditionally associated with a time of promotions, decorations and awards granted on the occasion of St. Florian's feast day. This year the ceremony of Firefighters Day was connected with celebration of 110 years in existence of professional fire service in Katowice. During the ceremony decorations and promotions on higher ranks were given to firefighters, mentioned about the beginning of fire service in Katowice and presented plans of formation development. Commanders of Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice congratulate all firefighters awarded this year.

• Basic course for volunteer firefighters
From 9 February to 11 May 2013 basic course for volunteer firefighters will run in Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice. Functions of instructors and lecturers will act firefighters from the Fire Station no.2. Station Command wishes effective learning.

• International Exercises of European Rescue Modules MODEX FALCK in Tinglev, Denmark
From 25 January to 28 January 2013 another full-scale rescue exercises of the European Civil Protection Modules took place in Tinglev, Denmark. In exercises participated search and rescue groups from Iceland and the UK, advanced medical care module (field hospital) from the Czech Republic. Firefighter from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice was part of command and coordination group. Coverage of exercises can be watched below.

• Provincial ceremony of National Independence Day
On 27 November 2012 provincial ceremony of National Independence Day took place at Fire Station no.1 Katowice-Szopienice. During the ceremony, firefighters were decorated for longstanding service. Among decorated were two firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice.
Firefighters from Fire Station no.2 congratulate all decorated.

• Renovation works completion
This year's summer and autumn have abounded in renovation works in Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice. Kitchen, common room in barracks, commander's offices, common room in staff building, alarm point, halls and corridors were modernized as a result of renovation. New tiles, furniture and lighting changed a building of Fire Station no. 2 for nicer and homey.

• International Exercises of the European Civil Protection Modules MODEX 2012
From 2 November to 5 November 2012 CBRN module from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice participated in international rescue exercises in the Netherlands. Firefighters from Fire Station no.2 were mainly responsible for taking and analyzing samples of water which were used by modules from Italy and Estonia for flood operations. Moreover, firefighters from Fire Station no.2 carried on chemical rescue operations on board a ship transporting pesticides and on board a ship without a crew transporting chemicals. Rescue skills of Polish firefighters were also checked for ability of eliminating dangers connected with industrial installation breakdowns. Operations carried out by Polish firefighters were onstantly assessing by CBRN experts from France.

• A new vehicle in Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice
In October Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice was enriched by light operating vehicle which can be used in chemical and ecological rescue. Land Rover with operating number 302-S-90 will replace old Jeep Cherokee.

• Hand over of new measuring and analytical devices
In recent times Specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group Katowice-Piotrowice formed on base of Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice has received a portable gas chromatograph connected with mass spectrometer (E²M) and remote contamination detection system (Second Sight). These devices were purchased with European Funds support. Firefighters from Fire Station no.2 are currently learning how to use devices and interpreting results of measurements.

• International Exercises in the Netherlands
On the basis of decision made by Chief Commandant of the State Fire Service, CBRN module (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Threat Recognising Team) from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice will participate in international exercises for modules of the European Civil Protection Mechanism. The exercises will take place at the beginning of November in the Netherlands. They are the first CBRN exercises for module from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice.

• Planned helmet replacement
In connection with modernization of firefighters' uniforms in City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice, firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice hope that they will start doing their job using new helmets soon.

• Gas chromatography training
From 29 May to 1 June 2012 firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice will participate in training in the field of portable gas chromatograph operating. This device will become as a part of measuring and analytical equipment which Specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group Katowice-Piotrowice has at one's disposal.

• Kitchen and common room renovation
On 21 May 2012 renovation works are starting in Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice. Renovation works include kitchen, common room, alarm point and corridors. It will be a beginning of the biggest renovation since Fire Station no.2 has arisen.

• OPCW training
From 14 May to 18 May 2012 two firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice took a part in training in the field of taking environmental samples and preparing them to chromatographic analysis. The training was organized by OPCW (Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) for the first time in Central School of the State Fire Service in Czestochowa, Poland. During the training firefighters were learning about methods of taking soil, water and air samples. Moreover, they learned techniques and found out about equipment for taking samples of toxic trace. Firefighters also learned about methods and techniques of taking environmental samples to analysis by gas chromatography connected with mass spectrometry. These techniques included extraction, deprivatization, etc.

• Fire Station Open Days
In connection with celebration of 20 years in existence of State Fire Service, Commander of Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice has the honor to invite all willing to visit Fire Station no.2 during Nationwide Fire Station Open Days for the next three Sundays of May 2012 (13 May, 20 May, 27 May). During the Open Days it will be possible to see an equipment of fire engine, uniforms and demonstrations of fire and rescue actions carried on by firefighters from Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice. On 13 May firefighters will show rescue techniques which are using during rescue actions after car accidents. On 20 May firefighters will show techniques which are using during fire actions. On 27 May firefighters will show techniques which are using during chemical and ecological rescue actions. All willing to visit Fire Station no.2 during the Open Days are welcome from 10.00 to 15.00 on each of the days mentioned above.

• Firefighters Day 2012
On 9 May 2012 ceremony of Firefighters Day will be organized at Fire Station no.2 Katowice-Piotrowice. The ceremony is coinciding with jubilee of 25 years in existence of professional fire service in Katowice-Piotrowice. During the ceremony, firefighter will get a promotion on higher ranks. Commander of Fire Station no.2 invites all firefighters from fire stations in Katowice to take a part in ceremony which starts at 12.00 o'clock on the square in front of fire station.
